Create and Name a Swatch - Illustrator

Swatch Tips

Creating Swatches

First make sure that the swatches panel is open. Go to the Window menu and scroll way down to the Swatches box, and click it.

In the swatch box, click the New Swatch icon, located near the bottom.

A new box should appear describing an already selected color pallet, go ahead and name it whatever you want and set it to a color of your choice using the slider bars. If you want a specific color that is already used in the illustration, select it with the Eye Dropper tool before clicking on the New Swatch icon, as it will pop up the dialogue box with the selected color.

In this case the swatch was named Seafoam, and we can see it here now in the swatch section.

Rename A Swatch

To rename a swatch, double click on the swatch you wish to rename and a dialogue box should appear. Type in the desired name and click OK to accept the changes.
