The Pathfinder Tool (Window > Pathfinder)
Path finder is good for working with shapes, and this is what it does;
*make sure to ungroup after using each command!
(Control + Shift + G, or Object > Ungroup)
Divide: divides paths according to how they overlap
Trim: uses to forward path to trim a hole on the path under it
Merge: merges shapes according to their fill colors
Crop: uses the forward shape to clip the rear one
Outline: lose fills, swaps strokes with fill. Also makes open paths.
Minus Back: cuts the rear paths out of the forward ones
