Transformation Tools - Illustrator

Transform and Scale Tool

The transform command lets you shrink or enlarge objects using percentages.

Select the object with the Black Arrow Tool > Effect menu > Transform

In this dialogue box you can adjust the vertical and horizontal values of the object

The Scale Tool lets you directly interact with the object you are scaling uniformly or non-uniformly. (you can also just click and drag the edge of a corner point on an object to interact with it in real-time)

Select the object with the Black Arrow Tool > Scale Tool > Enter > adjust the percentages and check boxes

Rotating and the Rotate Tool

The Rotate command lets you turn objects around a specified point.

Select the object with the Black Arrow Tool > Effect menu >  Transform

In this dialogue box, you can change to point at which an object rotates (via the icon made of small boxes in the bottom left corner) and the angel to which it rotates to, via typing in the 'Rotate' portion of the dialogue box, or clicking on the spin-wheel.

You can also change the amount of objects surrounding a point by increasing/decreasing the number in the 'Copies' text box. Adjust their positions with the 'Move' horizontal and vertical slide-bars.

The Rotate Tool allows you a simpler dialogue box. (you can also just click and drag near an edge's corner point to interact with the object in real time)

Select the object with the Black Arrow Tool > Rotate Tool > Enter > adjust the percentages of the rotation

Shear Tool

The Shear Tool allows you to skew objects along an axis, at defined angles.
(click on the object and hit Shift + Up Arrow to change the angle by 10 degrees at a time)

Shear Tool > Enter > Adjust the Shear Angle/Change the Axis to Vertical or Horizontal/Type in a certain angle to Shear along

Reflecting Objects

Alt + Click on a guideline (the lines that split the canvas into portions) to bring up the Reflect Dialogue box.

Here you can change which axis the object reflects across, as well type in an exact angle at which it reflects.

The Reshape and Width Point Tools

The Reshape tool is great used for clicking and dragging on points and the middle of lines to skew objects manually and in real time.

Click and Hold on the Scale Tool > Click on Reshape Tool > Click and Drag on points or line segments

The Width Point tool lets you create points along lines by double-clicking, in the dialogue box that appears you can adjust the width by typing it in the 'Total Width' text box
