The Old Mill - Walt Disney Productions: 1937

The Old Mill

Directed by Wilfred Jackson

Produced by Walt Disney

Distributed by RKO Radio Pictures

Summary: Somebody figured out how to zoom in, and decided that feature of animation needed to be showcased. At an old mill, a storm scares a bunch of animals.

Opinion: The scene is intense but really doesn't have any substance, akin to a film nowadays that blows its budget on special effects, but has weak writing. It's visually interesting, but really nothing feels 'important' and nothing carries my attention for more than a few seconds.
I think there is too much emphasis on 'set pieces' than story, because even animations with 'the new styley, simplified and over-saturated as they are, are easier to follow along with because of their use of sound, dialogue, and plot points.
