An Optical Poem - Oskar Fischinger: 1938

An Optical Poem by Oskar Fischinger 1938, Turner Entertainment Company Music: Franz Liszt The object of today's assignment was to watch 'An Optical Poem, by Oskar Fischinger, without succumbing to a stroke. All jokes aside, this short, for a lack of a better term -'music video', is a collection of colors that are carefully chosen and portrayed, tickling the eye with every coming spectacle. There are no live actors. Everything is expressed with motion, foreground, middle ground, and background - and rather a lot is accomplished. Lastly, it reminds me of the Ratatouille scenes , where the main character tastes foods and then becomes privy to a shower of shapes and colors in his mind. Also, the animated music video from the early 2000's that became quite popular, "Pipe Dream" . I can only assume it is a direct influence to both.

First Charcoal Experience - "Master-Copying" Kentaro Muira

The goal was to recreate the work of an artist of your own choice, so I chose the manga artist Kentaro Miura, because I am a huge fan of his writing, and I think his art kicks butt. The the right is the piece in question, from the manga Berserk. I took this and stretched it out to 4x9, and then devided it into equal rows of squares. I scaled that up to 8x18 and translated the squares to 1 inch each in pencil on a large sheet of watercolor paper and then began to copy the art as accurately as I could. Here is the stretched out art piece And here is the process of my work. Tah Dah! The finished piece is what lies inside all that artist's tape. Hopefully when I pull it off tomorrow it doesn't tear anything D:

Rock of Ages - quality smashing material

When I was a boy living in the beautiful hills of North Carolina, me and the other kids from the neighborhood had a game that we would always turn to when we were feeling especially rowdy. We called it 'Dodge Rock'. If you've ever played dodgeball, you can see where this is going. Luckily no teeth were lost [my own teeth, anyways], and a neat game is presently installed on my computer that assists in the reminiscing of those few glorious moments where hurling fistfuls of rocks at girls was completely okay. image courtesy of www.ausgamer.com Anyways, Rock of Ages . It is something unique that truly defies current genres, so i'll describe it as a "one-way, destruction centered platformer with tower-defense elements" kind of game. A game where you control a big rock and smash everything possible on the visceral road to busting down the enemy's castle gates, while simultaneously building structures that will hopefully slow down the enemy ...
